In Vineyard USA, we believe that the church flourishes when women are equipped to use their gifts. She Can Teach was developed by Rev. Dr. Jackie Roese, who has, for the past decade, equipped Vineyard women to handle Scripture with wisdom, courage, and depth. That is why this program goes beyond structural mechanics to help you discover, develop, and fully embrace your unique female voice. By the conclusion of the course, you will stand boldly and deliver a complete 20-minute sermon, backed by real-time, constructive feedback from both your peers and instructors to help you sharpen your impact.

Why we equip women to preach

The church flourishes when women are equipped to handle the Word of God with authority, yet millions of women who love the Scriptures sit on the sidelines, paralyzed by confusion, historical restrictions, and a self-perpetuating cycle of feeling unprepared. It is time to turn the light on. Embracing the call to preach and lead is not about stepping outside biblical boundaries; it is about stepping fully into a sacred mandate that began when Jesus commissioned women to herald the resurrection.

1. Theological and Biblical Foundation

The Example of Jesus: The foundational argument is that women should preach because "they always have, and Jesus is good with it." Jesus directly commissioned women, such as Mary Magdalene, to herald the most pivotal event in human history, the resurrection, to the male disciples.

Biblical Precedents of Female Heralds: Scripture interchanges the words "preach" and "teach," often defining them as heralding a message on behalf of authority. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was the first to proclaim the Good News and perform exegesis in Luke’s Gospel through the Magnificat. Furthermore, Paul explicitly co-labored with women leaders who read, interpreted, and taught Scripture, including Priscilla, Phoebe, and Junia.

The Sacred Mandate: The documents emphasize that teaching is a spiritual gift intended to bring about life change. Spreading the Word of God is a sacred ministry that calls both men and women to give their all and "spare no effort" (2 Tim. 2:15) to bring truth to the world.

2. Expanding the Church's Perspective

Diverse Eyes on the Text: Men and women naturally bring different lenses to Scripture. While male-dominated interpretation historically focused on hierarchical structures ("who is in charge"), women often explore relational and interpersonal dynamics.

Uncovering Hidden Wisdom: When women are not present in leadership or the pulpit, the church misses vital insights, perspectives, and aspects of God’s character. 

3. Overcoming Systematic and Internal Barriers

Dismantling "Quiet Paralysis": Due to historical erasure and institutional restrictions, evangelical spaces suffer from a "self-perpetuating cycle of unpreparedness" where women teach without formal training. Proper training replaces this paralysis and confusion with theological competence and confidence.

Countering Internalized Inadequacy: Research shows women often internalize historical biases—such as early church declarations framing women as "inferior" or "more easily deceived". Formal homiletical training helps women overcome this internalized shame, allowing them to fully embrace their authority to lead.

Providing Representative Role Models: Seeing a woman handle the Word of God with skill and authority expands the imagination of other women and girls. It creates a powerful blueprint, allowing them to realize that theological leadership is a valid and necessary calling for them.

MEET THE TEAm

  • Rev. Dr. Jackie Roese is the Founder and President of The Marcella Project, a ministry dedicated to ennobling women through Scripture-focused teaching, training, and strategic dialogue. An experienced communicator, former Teaching Pastor to Women at Irving Bible Church, and author of three books and co-author of two more, she has developed over a decade of Bible study curricula utilized globally. Driven by a passion to help women discover their voices and sharpen their theological thinking, she fine-tuned her intensive She Can Teach homiletics course during her doctoral program to equip women to become effective teachers and preachers of the Word. Her extensive international training and teaching have expanded globally, equipping women leaders across India, South Sudan, Rwanda, Congo, Israel, and Romania. Dr. Roese holds a Master's in Christian Education, a Master's in Theology of Women, and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching. She operates her national speaking ministry from Austin, Texas, where she resides with her husband, Steve, founder of Water is Basic.

  • Ashley Siri is the Co-Lead Pastor of Vineyard Community Church in Syracuse, Indiana, where she loves helping people take their next step with Jesus. Whether she's preaching on a Sunday morning, developing leaders, or dreaming about the future of the church, Ashley is passionate about creating environments where people encounter God, experience authentic community, and discover their purpose. She also serves with the Vineyard Women's Association, encouraging and equipping women across the Vineyard movement to lead with confidence, humility, and faithfulness. Ashley's heart is simple: to see people transformed by Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live on mission every day.

  • Amanda Clark pastors Branches Vineyard Church in Northern Indiana. She loves Jesus and hands-on culturally relevant ministry. She’s passionate about sharing meals around the table and building community through meaningful relationships. Amanda has been privileged to study at Northern Seminary and holds a Masters in New Testament Theology.

  • Jenna is a creative and curious professional who enjoys learning, solving problems, and engaging in meaningful conversations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University and a Master of Arts from Northern Seminary, experiences that have shaped her into a lifelong learner. She is a passionate preacher and teacher of Scripture with a desire to see others become more holy and whole.

    Jenna lives in Middlebury, Indiana with her husband Jared, and can often be found gathered around a game with family or friends, reading, or savoring a quiet morning on her back patio with her sunflowers. She believes some of life's most meaningful moments happen in sharing stories, cultivating creativity, and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Whether she is preaching, teaching, creating, or connecting with others, Jenna hopes to encourage people to embrace their God given curiosity and sense of wonder.

  • Susie is the Associate Pastor at Vineyard Community Church in Bloomington, Indiana. She’s married to Josh and they have 2 kids Lily and JD.
